POST 353 AWESOME

Hello Folks  Although this POST is awesome some of the contents and my take on the data and the 1967 writings of which all my Blogs and Posts have their base and foundation regarding the climate and the next step in evolution may seem to be extreme and should you have followed me since 1967 / 8 and more recently from POST 250 until now you will have seen the lead up and the repeated items and preparations as new evidence and scientists join in my themes, I may say I am not the only one on this theme, however it has my stamp on it and view and as I have said many times, it is solely my view and take and I could be wrong and its up to you to research and make up your own minds.  Thanks so much for coming this far.
SOLAR MINIMUM DEEPENS: The sun has been without sunspots for 33 of the past 34 days. To find a similar stretch of blank suns, you have to go back to 2009 when the sun was experiencing the deepest solar minimum in a century. Solar minimum has returned, bringing extra cosmic rays, long-lasting holes in the sun's atmosphere, and strangely pink aurorasFree: Aurora alerts.
ATMOSPHERIC RADIATION UPDATE: As the sunspot cycle declines, we expect cosmic rays to increase. Is this actually happening? The answer is "yes." Spaceweather.com and the students of Earth to Sky Calculus have been monitoring cosmic radiation in the atmosphere with frequent high-altitude balloon flights over California. Here are the latest results, current as of July 2018:

Above: X-ray/gamma-ray dose rates in the stratosphere over California. Energy range: 10 keV - 20 MeV
The data show radiation levels intensifying with an approximately 18% increase in monthly averages since March 2015. This comes as sunspot counts have dipped to a ~10-year low in June and July 2018.
Cosmic rays are the subatomic debris of dying stars, accelerated to nearly light speed by supernova explosions. They travel across the galaxy and approach Earth from all directions, peppering our planet 24/7. When cosmic rays crash into Earth's atmosphere, they produce a spray of secondary particles and photons that is most intense at the entrance to the stratosphere. This secondary spray is what we measure.

Above: An artist's rendering of secondary cosmic rays. [more]
Sunspots and cosmic rays have a yin-yang relationship. At the peak of the sunspot cycle, strong solar magnetic fields and solar wind hold many cosmic rays at bay. During solar minimum, however, the sun's magnetic field weakens and the outward pressure of the solar wind decreases. This allows more cosmic rays from deep space to penetrate the inner solar system and our planet's atmosphere.
The increase is widespread. Every place in the USA where we have launched multiple balloons exhibits the same pattern. There are upward trends from coast to coast:
The plot, above, shows more than 150 stratospheric radiation measurements we have made using balloons flown over the continental USA. Because California is our home base, it is more densely sampled than other states. Adding additional points outside California remains a key goal of the monitoring program.
How do cosmic rays affect us? Cosmic rays penetrate commercial airlines, dosing passengers and flight crews so much that pilots are classified as occupational radiation workers by the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP). According to a recent study from researchers at the Harvard School of Public Health, flight attendants face an elevated risk of cancer compared to members of the general population. The investigators listed cosmic rays among several risk factors. Weather and climate may also be affected, with some research linking cosmic rays to to the formation of clouds and lightning.
In August-December 2018 we will conduct a new campaign of coordinated balloon launches from the USA (including sites in California, Washington, Kansas, Oregon, and Maine), Chile, and New Zealand to further probe the evolving cosmic ray situation. As solar activity declines we expect to find increasing radiation around the globe. Stay tuned for updates.
This plot displays radiation measurements not only in the stratosphere, but also at aviation altitudes. Dose rates are expessed as multiples of sea level. For instance, we see that boarding a plane that flies at 25,000 feet exposes passengers to dose rates ~10x higher than sea level. At 40,000 feet, the multiplier is closer to 50x. These measurements are made by our usual cosmic ray payload as it passes through aviation altitudes en route to the stratosphere over California.
What is this all about? Approximately once a week, Spaceweather.com and the students of Earth to Sky Calculus fly space weather balloons to the stratosphere over California. These balloons are equipped with radiation sensors that detect cosmic rays, a surprisingly "down to Earth" form of space weather. Cosmic rays can seed cloudstrigger lightning, and penetrate commercial airplanes. Furthermore, there are studies ( #1#2#3#4) linking cosmic rays with cardiac arrhythmias and sudden cardiac death in the general population. Our latest measurements show that cosmic rays are intensifying, with an increase of more than 13% since 2015:
Why are cosmic rays intensifying? The main reason is the sun. Solar storm clouds such as coronal mass ejections (CMEs) sweep aside cosmic rays when they pass by Earth. During Solar Maximum, CMEs are abundant and cosmic rays are held at bay. Now, however, the solar cycle is swinging toward Solar Minimum, allowing cosmic rays to return. Another reason could be the weakening of Earth's magnetic field, which helps protect us from deep-space radiation.
The radiation sensors onboard our helium balloons detect X-rays and gamma-rays in the energy range 10 keV to 20 MeV. These energies span the range of medical X-ray machines and airport security scanners.

The data points in the graph above correspond to the peak of the Reneger-Pfotzer maximum, which lies about 67,000 feet above central California. When cosmic rays crash into Earth's atmosphere, they produce a spray of secondary particles that is most intense at the entrance to the stratosphere. Physicists Eric (Courtesy spaceweather.com)

I kick off with this video above. This lovely lady received this in 1968 there is a connection with the dates. When I got the 1967 writings at Samye Ling(Tibetan Monastery in Southern Scotland - see search bar-formerly Johnson House and now rebuilt in splendour) and this is POST 9 March 2013 (Scroll down) and some exciting follow up's in POST 222.  In the archives https://geofffreedarchive.blogspot.com/2005/01/ (these archives are taken from the late www.energygrid.com which closed down lately and I wrote these as a contributor, one of many I might say an excellent work) I describe the extraordinary visions that people shared and my own and this went on until 1969 when they petered off, so the video above was in keeping with that era and of course visions are are still occurring, this was just the intake that concerned others and myself at that time. Many have remained friends and contacts and some in very 'high' places and some retired and their family are in touch with me still, some are my sources that I mention and will not name as you know I will put up with the howls 'you are making it up---I will not put my sources in jeopardy as you may have seen what is happening to them if they are branded as whistle blowers' see the video below.

By now and as the repeated spaceweather.com gives the facts that the Cosmic Rays are increasing that I use to illustrate my view(independent of spaceweather.com who are not in any way connected to my ideas) and I may add that Cosmic Rays always increase and vary with solar lows, yet this is a huge increase and the magnetic fields of the Earth and Sun are in some scientific circles increasing or decreasing my view is altering in magnetic north and decreasing and the Sun's magnetic field changing in its evolution to its white phase and is decreasing magnetically but be assured still full of fire.

The Earth’s magnetic field is reversing more than ever. Here’s why?

Here are some articles, reminding you of the 'wipe outs' mentioned many times in previous POSTS;
from this

Of all the species that have ever lived, more than 99% are now extinct. Most of them quietly disappeared during periods of “background extinction”, whereby a handful of species become extinct every 100,000 years or so.
But there were also occasions when extinction rates increased rapidly in short periods of time and wiped out a significant proportion of all life on Earth. These are known as mass extinctions. They have profoundly influenced the history of life – and many scientists now argue that we are in the midst of another one. To see if they’re right, we can look at previous occasions when large numbers of species went extinct.
Traditionally, scientists have referred to the “Big Five” mass extinctions, including perhaps the most famous mass extinction that brought about the end of the dinosaurs. This was triggered by a meteorite impact at the end of the Cretaceous period, but the other major mass extinctions were caused by phenomena originating entirely on Earth. While they are less well known, we may learn something from exploring them that could shed light on our current environmental crises.

1. The Late Ordovician

Global cooling has led to mass extinction. Mark Brennan/FlickrCC BY-SA

This ancient crisis around 445m years ago saw two major waves of extinction, both caused by climate change associated with the advance and retreat of ice sheets in the southern hemisphere. This makes it the only major extinction to be linked to global cooling.
This extinction caused the demise of around 57% of marine genera (the taxonomic rank above the species level), including many trilobites, shelled brachiopods, and eel-like conodonts.

2. The Late Devonian

This period is now regarded as a number of “pulses” of extinction spread over 20m years, beginning 380m years ago. It saw the extinction of around 50% of marine genera; among the species killed off were many corals, trilobites, sponges and the heavily armoured fish known as placoderms. This extinction has been linked to major climate change, possibly caused by an eruption of the volcanic Viluy Traps area in modern-day Siberia. A major eruption might have caused rapid fluctations in sea levels and reduced oxygen levels in the oceans.

3. The Middle Permian

Scientists have recently discovered another event 262m years ago that rivals the “Big Five” in size. This event coincided with the Emeishan eruption in what’s now China, and is known to have caused simultaneous extinctions in the tropics and higher latitudes. In particular, there were exceptionally high extinction rates: more than 80% of species were wiped out, among them brachiopods and single-celled benthic foraminifera.

4. The Late Permian

The Late Permian mass extinction around 252m years ago dwarfs all the other events, with about 96% of species becoming extinct. This included more trilobites, corals, and whole branches of species of terrestrial animals. The extinction was triggered by a vast eruption of the Siberian Traps, a gigantic and prolonged volcanic event that covered much of modern day Siberia, which led to a cascade of environmental effects.
A greenhouse effect rapidly took hold in the atmosphere, while the oceans suffered acidification and xygen depletion. The ozone layer was partially destroyed, meaning lethal levels of UV radiation reached the Earth’s surface. The recovery took almost 10m years and even then, the unstable environment this catastrophic crisis created meant the subsequent Triassic period saw intermittent bursts of heightened extinction.

5. The Late Triassic

The supercontinent Pangaea before it split.Wikimedia CommonsCC BY-SA

The Late Triassic event, 201m years ago, shares a number of similarities with the Late Permian event. It was caused by another large-scale eruption, this time of the Central Atlantic Magmatic Province, which heralded the splitting of the supercontinent Pangaea and the initial opening of what would later become the Atlantic Ocean.
A similar cascade of environmental effects, as seen during the Late Permian, led to the extinction of around 47% of all genera. The extinction led to the final demise of the eel-like conodonts, as well as the largest known extinction of scleractinian corals. It also wiped out a significant proportion of terrestrial reptiles and amphibianspaving the way for the diversification of the dinosaurs in the Jurassic period.

A mass extinction in slow motion

So, are we currently in the middle of a mass extinction? If we really are, this time the cause is not a meteorite impact or volcanic eruptions. It is the work of a single species: Homo sapiens. Habitat destruction and climate change from rising carbon dioxide levels has driven extinction rates to levels reminiscent of the mass extinctions of the ancient past.
The similarities between today and the past are uncanny. The majority of past extinctions are associated with carbon dioxide from volcanoes causing rapid global warming, which led to a number of environmental cascade effects. The cause may be different, but the results will be the same.

Habitat dstruction fuelling the current crisis. Nina Lishchuk/Shutterstock

However, it is now 66m years since the last mass extinction. Earth’s ecosystems are very different, and perhaps more stable given the length of time elapsed since the last major biotic crisis. The position of the continents has changed, meaning atmospheric and ocean circulation are different; that makes it very difficult to use past data to predict the outcomes of any future mass extinctions.
Current extinction rates are 50 times higher than expected background rates, suggesting that another mass extinction event is underway. But mass extinctions are also about magnitude: if we could travel millions of years into the future and examine rocks preserving today’s ecosystems, I’d wager we’d see little evidence of a major extinction event.
If we can stop the biodiversity decline in the near future, we may yet escape mass extinction. But 100 or 1,000 years more of human-caused stress on the biosphere will likely tip us over the edge into oblivion.
In my view there are major flaws in this presentation; It is now been proven that the Sun is involved in these changes and the Sun Earth connection is really worth exploring. In number one the Late Ordovician it is said it is the only one due to global cooling but it is not clear what caused it.

The gravitational pull of the Sun and the Moon produces the tides, so it makes sense gravity could affect plate tectonics and potentially trigger earthquakes. In a solar eclipse, the Earth, Sun, and Moon are aligned, so you’d expect the effect to be greatest. Is there a correlation between eclipses and earthquakes? The short answer is yes, but it’s not really the eclipse that increases the probability, but the lunar phase.
According to the U.S Geological Survey (USGS), recent studies have indicated a correlation between high ocean tides and earth tides and earthquakes on shallow thrust faults and undersea subduction zones. In an earth tide or body tide, the Earth’s surface is displaced by the gravity of the Sun and Moon. An ocean tide works the same way, except it’s water that moves rather than land. Both types of high tides occur during the full and new moon. A lunar eclipse occurs during a full moon while a solar eclipses occurs during the new moon, but there is no statistical increase in seismic activity compared with any other new or full moon. If you stop to think about it, the alignment between the Earth, Sun, and Moon has to be very precise to produce an eclipse, but the bodies come close to that alignment relatively often.
During earth tides, the surface of the crust may rise or fall by a few centimeters. The affect of ocean tides is more pronounced. Ocean tides can change the sea level by over a meter, which changes the pressure on subduction zones and the faults near the edges of continents.
How significant is the increased risk? The USGS calculation estimates a 3x increased risk of an earthquake. While this may seem like a lot, the risk at any given time is extremely low, so multiplying it by three still yields an extremely tiny probability of an occurrence.
The semi-diurnal tides also have an affect on seismic activity and have been connected with aftershocks in volcanic regions. Even so, the chance of an earthquake occurring is the same whether it is day or night in the region.

There is a  view that it is heat that can do it during the eclipses, the Earth cools down and then heats up  and in fault lines and fissures this has an expanding and contracting effect, then there is;

El Niño and La NiñaEl Niño and La Niña are weather patterns that occur every 3–7 years in the tropical Pacific Ocean. During El Niño, warm ocean waters (seen here in red) spread eastward across the tropical eastern Pacific; in La Niña, they are concentrated in the west.12 Jun 2006

Underneath our feet, deep down in the Earth, liquid iron is producing the magnetic field that we all take for granted. But every now and then that magnetic field reverses or flips its polarity. What was once magnetic north becomes south – and vice versa. When these reversals take place – and why they do so – has been an enduring mystery.
But our new research shows that there is a relationship between the Earth’s magnetic field and the amount of ancient ocean floor that descends from the surface into the hot ductile mantle beneath, through a process known as subduction.
Not only might this relationship give us some idea of how many magnetic field reverses occur over any time period, it also enables us to understand how quickly the mantle (the layer of Earth between the crust and the core) moves. This is important because mantle motion is ultimately responsible for producing nearly all earthquakes, volcanoes and mountain chains. Hot plumes from the mantle may also be responsible for Earth's major extinctions. If we can understand the workings of the mantle we can have better insight into long timescale geological phenomena that affect our species.
Graveyard for surface plates
Plate tectonics is the scientific theory that the Earth’s “lithosphere” (the cold, uppermost mantle and the crust, which are welded together) is split into seven large plates and many smaller ones. Plates are formed by volcanism at mid-ocean spreading centers such as the Mid-Atlantic Rift. Once at the surface, new lithosphere moves away from spreading centers and cools over millions of years. Over time it becomes denser and eventually the lithosphere sinks back into the hot mantle at subduction zones, such as that found just west of the Andes.
At this point, the plates disappear from the Earth’s surface. But seismologists claim that colder “slabs” of lithosphere can be identified deep down in the mantle up to 300 million years after they have disappeared from the surface. The slabs of lithosphere have descended thousands of kilometers downwards, displacing vast volumes of solid mantle in the process and forming a “slab graveyard” just above the much denser liquid iron outer core. This means that the slabs of lithosphere descend as much as 2,890 km and it is there that they might influence the motion of iron liquid in the underlying core.
But there is strong disagreement regarding the amount of time it takes for the slabs to sink down far enough to affect the core. Estimates have ranged from around 50m to 250m years.
Fossilized magnetic activity of the core
The Earth’s magnetic field has persisted for billions of years, though its polarity has flipped many times. Because the magnetic field leaves a fossilized magnetization in many rocks that form at Earth’s surface, we have a “palaeomagnetic record” of how Earth’s magnetic field has changed over time.
We also know that the rate with which these reversals happen has varied strongly. They occurred at a faster rate over the past million years than in the previous 100m. And it is still a great mystery why the rate of polarity change is so varied.
Earth’s magnetic field is generated in the liquid outer core by a dynamo process that converts the motion of electrically conductive fluid into electromagnetic energy. This process is similar in principle to the dynamo used in a wind-up torch. So our Earth’s core is sensitive to the rate at which it loses heat to the overlying cooler mantle.
When cold subducted slabs arrive in the lower mantle, they increase the rate of core cooling and so speed up the motion of the liquid iron within it. According to numerical models, this extra motion should cause the rate of reversals to also increase. So perhaps the magnetic field reversal rate increases when more subduction happens at the surface? If so, then we would expect to measure a time delay between the subduction and changes in reversal rate because the slabs have to sink a long way before they affect the core. Our study aimed to measure just how quickly slabs sink through the viscous solid mantle.
To do so, we examined records of both “subduction flux” (area of cold slabs entering the mantle) and geomagnetic polarity reversal rate (how often flips occur). The subduction flux data covered the past 410m years from a global model of plate tectonics. The reversal rate data came from a new compilation back to 500m years. We also used a global compilation of the ages of grains of zircon (a type of mineral appearing in igneous rocks that form above subducting slabs), which is also likely to vary with subduction flux.
© Provided by The Next Web
When we subjected the subduction flux, magnetic reversal rate data and zircon age frequency to statistical analysis, we found a significant correlation associated with a “surface to core” time delay of around 120m years. So it is likely that the Earth’s magnetic field is affected by these sinking slabs of lithosphere.
The correlation is not perfect and – even if it were – it would not necessarily imply causation, since a number of potentially confounding factors may be in play. But it is an encouraging result, because it fits with our expectations of how the deep Earth works and gives us a time delay that sits somewhere in the middle of previous estimates. It also makes a unique prediction that, because subduction flux decreased over the past 120m years, reversal rate is predicted to lessen in the next 120m years.
The challenge now is find out how fast the mantle actually moves. If we can understand the ancient and deep processes that are responsible for earthquakes, volcanoes and mountains, we can have better insight into geological phenomena that affect our everyday lives.

Whilst there is a lot of data I have my own take. There are these cycles which I have mentioned many times and many facts I have to repeat; The Maya talked about the 6th Sun and I feel this is connected to the sixth slow mass extinction as mentioned above, I feel that there is a 700,600, 000 year cycle and within that there is a 24,000, 12,000. 5,000 year cycles which are in the;
Yes, the Sun - in fact, our whole solar system - orbits around the center of the Milky Way Galaxy. We are moving at an average velocity of 828,000 km/hr. But even at that high rate, it still takes us about 230 million years to make one complete orbit around the Milky Way! The Milky Way is a spiral galaxy.
The Milky Way does not sit still, but is constantly rotating. As such, the arms are moving through space. The sun and the solar system travel with them. The solar system travels at an average speed of 515,000 mph (828,000 km/h).

There are some scientists who say it is a 255 or 250 million cycle. My view it is the Sun that is driving the local Earth changes via a step down transformer effect from the Milky Way Centre which in turn from somewhere else. These energies of the which are entering now as above are carrier waves of information which are upgrading and reconfiguring our DNA.

To my view the Age of Aquarius is the the the event of the sixth sun and is the next step in evolution and maybe the event the lady from Norway describes as the return of Jesus.  Regarding Jesus I feel the since 5000 years back there has been a slow build up in implements of energy with several 'jump starts' peaks and surges such a one I feel was in 1967.
Courtesy belasbrightides.wordpress.com
Other key peaks were 2012, and now 2013 -2032, 2033-2075. Every year now is intensifying the energies, they are changing the synapses and neurons and these in turn are causing a change in mind sets and can cause confusion as the collective archetype embedded collective unconscious is being jiggled and joggled in order for a new collective to arrive and as this process builds up there is a process which I call the Ascension Process or the next step in evolution and the remnants of a holocaust caused by the sixth sun ( lady from Norway Third World War) which may come about through the Sun going into its White Phase and the harbinger of the next humans which I call Homo Energetica / Spiritulana there will be Astrological implications as above.

In my view the above were shown in past blogs and POSTS so the authors are the two were fond on google Images and apologies if I cannot find authors to credit.
I feel that the build up of energies will culminate in a climax, a Galactic Cosmic Orgasm, a tipping point and may manifest as Volcanic, Tectonic or some form of fire and water deluge. However if enough people manage to get the process downloaded and this storm of madness which is jumbling up the mind and breaking down the mind sets so causing many to distraction and madness, seeking vainly to make sense of a disappearing and vanishing scenarios and seeking reality, endeavouring to make sense of the political, media fake news, religious bigotry, the industrial military complex and the multinationals that rape the Earth and us of health and well being. Should we manage to get a 65% world population download of the Ascension Process by steadying the mind and seeking inner peace through mindfulnesses / meditation  and then the DNA upgrades and reconfigures I feel that the Earth through the interchange between the Schumann Resonance will recognise the urge of humanity to change and are willing and able to assist in the next step in evolution then the intelligences of the Sun and Earth will apply the and moderate the incoming energies to assist in the assimilation.  The tipping point or consensus of 65% was known as the hundred monkey, of course it was debunked by academics, yet it has been proven.

This was also known as the critical mass; then there are those who want to delay or destroy to process in the most hideous and horrible way; Destroying Minds such a one is chemtrails and weaponry as laid out H.R 2977 and in more detail in POST 345 May 26 2018. Then opioid's, water pollution, GMO foods, WI FI and electronic fog and so on.
To destroy, distract and drug minds also gets the money rolling in  to big pharma and co through ill health and frenzied consumerism.

Well I feel this has covered a lot, there is so much more but for the time being.

Keep well and Be Well

POST 352 SIGNIFICANT

Hi there folks. I know I keep on about the Cosmic Rays, Ascension and the shift to the next step in evolution, however when and if you scroll down you will see back up and the lies about climate change and it's all our fault. Of course 10 to 12% is and we need to eliminate that and I revive here my old inverted V theory which I laid upon readers way back.

Many readers of the late www.energygrid.com would have seen my references to this many times; on the left is mega crises and the right mega solution. For every crisis there is a search for a solution and vice versa for those who did want the solution, I gave the example of the industrial military complex and other large multinationals who did not want their profit endangered and profit over expendable people.
The energies of Cosmic input and powering up is the middle line the increments of the Cosmic Rays which drive the unrest of outworn and non serving mind sets and challenge the 'realities of the era'.  The 2012 point is missing and should be inserted between 1967 and 2032, I did this drawing roughly in the early 60's and I was not sure that 2012 would be significant now in my view it was a pivotal year and my calculations with electron volts did not take into account the revving up increments of quanta involved it was happening sooner than I anticipated and calculated.  When mega crisis meets mega solution the energies would be so prolific in opposition and a possible huge conflict that they cancel one another out and so the tipping point and a shift into a synthesis of a new energy format, an upgrading and reconfiguring. The birth of a new era.

This I included years back as it depicts the some of the 5,500 year cycle within the larger cycles of Galaxy and beyond. I appreciate the procession of the Equinox is not strictly within the Cosmic Ray Information carriers yet it does serve to show some of the evidence I am talking about at present. I lump them altogether as they are 'measures and graphs' along with fossils, Astronomy, Astrology, Ice drilling's and so on.
So we keep our awareness and alert unbiased attention and await what the next steps are.

49 Former NASA Scientists Send A Letter Disputing Climate Change

NASA Administrator Charles Bolden
Is NASA playing fast and loose with climate change science? That's the contention of a group of 49 former NASA scientists and astronauts.
On March 28 the group sent a letter to NASA administrator Charles Bolden, Jr., blasting the agency for making unwarranted claims about the role of carbon dioxide in global warming, Business Insider reported.
"We believe the claims by NASA and GISS [NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies], that man-made carbon dioxide is having a catastrophic impact on global climate change are not substantiated, especially when considering thousands of years of empirical data," the group wrote. "With hundreds of well-known climate scientists and tens of thousands of other scientists publicly declaring their disbelief in the catastrophic forecasts, coming particularly from the GISS leadership, it is clear that the science is NOT settled."
The group features some marquee names, including Michael F. Collins, Walter Cunningham and five other Apollo astronauts, as well as two former directors of NASA's Johnson Space Centre in Houston.
The letter included a request for NASA to refrain from mentioning CO2 as a cause of global warming in future press releases and websites. The agency's "Global Climate Change" web page says that "Humans have increased atmospheric CO2 concentration by a third since the Industrial Revolution began. This is the most important long-lived "forcing" of climate change."
HOUSTON, TX – April 10, 2012.
49 former NASA scientists and astronauts sent a letter to NASA Administrator Charles Bolden last week admonishing the agency for it’s role in advocating a high degree of certainty that man-made CO2 is a major cause of climate change while neglecting empirical evidence that calls the theory into question.
The group, which includes seven Apollo astronauts and two former directors of NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston, are dismayed over the failure of NASA, and specifically the Goddard Institute For Space Studies (GISS), to make an objective assessment of all available scientific data on climate change. They charge that NASA is relying too heavily on complex climate models that have proven scientifically inadequate in predicting climate only one or two decades in advance.
H. Leighton Steward, chairman of the non-profit Plants Need CO2, noted that many of the former NASA scientists harbored doubts about the significance of the C02-climate change theory and have concerns over NASA’s advocacy on the issue. While making presentations in late 2011 to many of the signatories of the letter, Steward realized that the NASA scientists should make their concerns known to NASA and the GISS.
“These American heroes – the astronauts that took to space and the scientists and engineers that put them there – are simply stating their concern over NASA’s extreme advocacy for an unproven theory,” said Leighton Steward. “There’s a concern that if it turns out that CO2 is not a major cause of climate change, NASA will have put the reputation of NASA, NASA’s current and former employees, and even the very reputation of science itself at risk of public ridicule and distrust.”
Select excerpts from the letter:
  • “The unbridled advocacy of CO2 being the major cause of climate change is unbecoming of NASA’s history of making an objective assessment of all available scientific data prior to making decisions or public statements.”
  • “We believe the claims by NASA and GISS, that man-made carbon dioxide is having a catastrophic impact on global climate change are not substantiated.”
  • “We request that NASA refrain from including unproven and unsupported remarks in its future releases and websites on this subject.”

Dear Charlie,
We, the undersigned, respectfully request that NASA and the Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) refrain from including unproven remarks in public releases and websites. We believe the claims by NASA and GISS, that man-made carbon dioxide is having a catastrophic impact on global climate change are not substantiated, especially when considering thousands of years of empirical data. With hundreds of well-known climate scientists and tens of thousands of other scientists publicly declaring their disbelief in the catastrophic forecasts, coming particularly from the GISS leadership, it is clear that the science is NOT settled.
The unbridled advocacy of CO2 being the major cause of climate change is unbecoming of NASA’s history of making an objective assessment of all available scientific data prior to making decisions or public statements.
As former NASA employees, we feel that NASA’s advocacy of an extreme position, prior to a thorough study of the possible overwhelming impact of natural climate drivers is inappropriate. We request that NASA refrain from including unproven and unsupported remarks in its future releases and websites on this subject. At risk is damage to the exemplary reputation of NASA, NASA’s current or former scientists and employees, and even the reputation of science itself.
For additional information regarding the science behind our concern, we recommend that you contact Harrison Schmitt or Walter Cunningham, or others they can recommend to you.
Thank you for considering this request.
Sincerely,
(Attached signatures)

The Worsening Cosmic Ray Situation

March 5, 2018: Cosmic rays are bad–and they’re getting worse.
That’s the conclusion of a new paper just published in the research journal Space Weather. The authors, led by Prof. Nathan Schwadron of the University of New Hampshire, show that radiation from deep space is dangerous and intensifying faster than previously expected.

The story begins four years ago when Schwadron and colleagues first sounded the alarm about cosmic rays. Analyzing data from the Cosmic Ray Telescope for the Effects of Radiation (CRaTER) instrument onboard NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO), they found that cosmic rays in the Earth-Moon system were peaking at levels never before seen in the Space Age. The worsening radiation environment, they pointed out, was a potential peril to astronauts, curtailing how long they could safely travel through space.
This figure from their original 2014 paper shows the number of days a 30-year old male astronaut flying in a spaceship with 10 g/cm2 of aluminum shielding could go before hitting NASA-mandated radiation limits:
missionduration_strip
In the 1990s, the astronaut could spend 1000 days in interplanetary space. In 2014 … only 700 days. “That’s a huge change,” says Schwadron.
Galactic cosmic rays come from outside the solar system. They are a mixture of high-energy photons and sub-atomic particles accelerated toward Earth by supernova explosions and other violent events in the cosmos. Our first line of defense is the sun:  The sun’s magnetic field and solar wind combine to create a porous ‘shield’ that fends off cosmic rays attempting to enter the solar system. The shielding action of the sun is strongest during Solar Maximum and weakest during Solar Minimum–hence the 11-year rhythm of the mission duration plot above.
The problem is, as the authors note in their new paper, the shield is weakening: “Over the last decade, the solar wind has exhibited low densities and magnetic field strengths, representing anomalous states that have never been observed during the Space Age. As a result of this remarkably weak solar activity, we have also observed the highest fluxes of cosmic rays.”
Back in 2014, Schwadron et al used a leading model of solar activity to predict how bad cosmic rays would become during the next Solar Minimum, now expected in 2019-2020.  “Our previous work suggested a ∼ 20% increase of dose rates from one solar minimum to the next,” says Schwadron. “In fact, we now see that actual dose rates observed by CRaTER in the last 4 years exceed the predictions by ∼ 10%, showing that the radiation environment is worsening even more rapidly than we expected.” In this plot bright green data points show the recent excess:
excess_crater_strip
The data Schwadron et al have been analyzing come from CRaTER on the LRO spacecraft in orbit around the Moon, which is point-blank exposed to any cosmic radiation the sun allows to pass. Here on Earth, we have two additional lines of defense: the magnetic field and atmosphere of our planet. Both mitigate cosmic rays.
But even on Earth the increase is being felt. The students of Earth to Sky Calculus have been launching space weather balloons to the stratosphere almost weekly since 2015. Sensors onboard those balloons show a 13% increase in radiation (X-rays and gamma-rays) penetrating Earth’s atmosphere:
balloon_data_strip
X-rays and gamma-rays detected by these balloons are “secondary cosmic rays,” produced by the crash of primary cosmic rays into Earth’s upper atmosphere. They trace radiation percolating down toward our planet’s surface. The energy range of the sensors, 10 keV to 20 MeV, is similar to that of medical X-ray machines and airport security scanners.
How does this affect us? Cosmic rays penetrate commercial airlines, dosing passengers and flight crews so much that pilots are classified by the International Commission on Radiological Protection as occupational radiation workers. Some research shows that cosmic rays can seed clouds and trigger, potentially altering weather and climate. Furthermore, there are studies ( #1#2#3#4) linking cosmic rays with cardiac arrhythmias in the general population.
Cosmic rays will intensify even more in the years ahead as the sun plunges toward what may be the deepest Solar Minimum in more than a century. Stay tuned for updates.

SPIDERS AND SPACE WEATHER, CONTINUED..... Spiders evolved inside the global electric circuit, so it's no surprise that they have learned to tap into it. But how? Peter W. Gorham of the Dept. of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Hawaii notes that "the complex protein structure of spider silk includes charge-bearing amino acids glutamic acid and arginine, which might be generated in a charged state as part of the spinning process." [ref]

This video shows a spider flying in respond to laboratory electric fields. From "Electric Fields Elicit Ballooning in Spiders."
Researchers have long wondered about the role of electricity in spider flight. Charles Darwin may have been the first. He wrote about it during his voyages on the HMS Beagle (1831-1836). One day, the ship was 60 miles off the coast of Argentina when the deck was inundated by ballooning spiders.
"The day was hot and apparently quite calm," Darwin wrote. Yet "I repeatedly observed the same kind of small spider, either when placed or having crawled on some little eminence, elevate its abdomen, send forth a thread, and then sail away horizontally, but with a rapidity which was quite unaccountable."
He was particularly struck by spiders using multiple strands of silk that splayed out in fan-like shapes. Instead of tangling as they moved through the air, the strands remained separate. Were they repelled by an electrostatic force? Darwin wondered in his writings. The work of Erica Morley and her collaborator Daniel Robert closes the loop on a train of thought almost 200 years old.

Above: Hairs on the legs of spiders called "trichobothria" twitch when electric fields are present–a signal to the spider that ballooning may commence. From "Electric Fields Elicit Ballooning in Spiders."
All of this raises the possibility that spiders may be affected by space weather as electric fields are perturbed by cosmic rays and solar activity. Research groups have demonstrated connections between space weather and atmospheric electricity on a variety of time scales:

FROM ARTICLE SPACEWEATHER.COM
  • Days: Coronal mass ejections (CMEs) from the sun can sweep aside cosmic rays as they pass by Earth, causing temporary reductions in atmospheric ionization as large as 30%. Our own Spaceweather.com/Earth to Sky cosmic ray balloons have measured these events. [ref]
  • Months: Measurements at the Reading University Atmospheric Observatory in the UK have shown that voltages can fluctuate +-15% as Earth dips in and out of the heliospheric current sheet (a huge corrugated magnetic structure centered on the sun) every ~27 days. [ref]
  • Years: During the 20th century, fair weather atmospheric voltages at sites in Scotland and the UK decreased by factors of ~25% due to a long-term decrease in cosmic rays. [ref] That slow trend is now reversing itself as cosmic rays intensify again.
Could the migration patterns of ballooning spiders be affected by space weather?
"It's entirely possible, but we simply don't yet know," says Morley. "The experiments we have carried out are mostly lab-based, which helps eliminate confounding variables. A next step in the project is to take this all into the field and look for patterns. Factoring in solar activity could be very interesting."

A GREAT BOOK IT IS MORE LIKE AN ENCYCLOPAEDIA OF
EVOLVING NEW SCIENCE, SPIRITUALITY AND REALLY AMAZING
IDEAS. WHAT IMPRESSED ME THAT I WAS WRITING ABOUT THESE THINGS IN 1967 AND THEN ON THE NET FROM 2005.
DAVID'S RESEARCH ON 'CHANGES IN THE SOLAR SYSTEM' IS IN-DEPTH AND A TASTER IS BELOW, SCROLL DOWN THE ARTICLE FOR THE SUN AND PLANET CHANGES AND HIS BOOK IN MORE DETAILS WITH NASA WEB ADDRESSES AND IN THE BOOK 'CHAPTER 18 THE GALACTIC CLOCK STRIKES THE HOUR'
OF COURSE THERE ARE SCIENTISTS WHO DISAGREE  AND ON SOME POINTS I DO BUT IN GENERAL THE BEST SUMMARY I COULD FIND OUTSIDE NASA WHO I FEEL DO NOT COUGH UP THE WHOLE LOT.
