Hello dear readers. I do so love Mother Earth and although I cannot walk as well these days I still have a beautiful long garden belonging to our flats.  The aroma of the Earth and grass after rain, the bird song, the insects, the odd butterfly, the migrating geese, the trees that speak to me about the change of the seasons, the few bees that buzz in the spring and summer, the stark beauty of winter and the aliveness of Nature and her spirit reminding me of that beautiful, honourable, noble, kind mind that created it.  I am so grateful for my life and its simplicity.

When I was playing soccer we went to play in Sweden, the lads there were horrified at us using antiperspirants under the arms, I never did by the way, I used natural soaps and aroma therapy oils on my clothes, the Swedish guys told us it stopped the toxins coming out from the skin. Explanation: All of the other aurora watchers had gone home. By 3:30 am in Iceland, on a quiet night last September, much of that night's auroras had died down. Suddenly though, a new burst of particles streamed down from space, lighting up the Earth's atmosphere once again. This time, unexpectedly, pareidoliacally, they created an amazing shape reminiscent of a giant phoenix. With camera equipment at the ready, two quick sky images were taken, followed immediately by a third of the land. The mountain in the background is Helgafell, while the small foreground river is called Kaldá, both located about 30 kilometers north of Iceland's capital Reykjavik. Seasoned skywatchers will note that just above the mountain, toward the left, is the constellation of Orion, while the Pleiades star cluster is also visible just above the frame center. The new aurora lasted only a minute and would be gone forever -- possibly dismissed as an embellished aberration-- were it not captured in the featured, digitally-composed, image mosaic.

The cholesterol theory was busted open 50 years ago—but the study was never published in full. Using unpublished data that had gathered dust since 1973, a new team of researchers has discovered that those who lower their cholesterol levels the most also increase their risk of heart disease.

The Minnesota Coronary Experiment study refuted much of the advice on heart health that we’ve been told since the 1960s, and especially about switching from butter to a ‘healthier’ vegetable oil. Overall, there were twice as many deaths among the group that switched from butter to corn oil, the study discovered from data that was never published.

The data gathered dust on shelves, until a team of researchers—helped by the son of one of the original researchers—took a fresh look at the work. The new research team, from the University of North Carolina Health Care centre, completed the work of researchers from the University of Minnesota.

The study, which took place between 1968 and 1973, involved 9,423 participants. Part of the study—which excluded much of the controversial findings—was finally published in 1989.

The same North Carolina team also recovered unpublished data from the Sydney Diet Heart Study several years ago to discover that there were more cases of heart disease and death among those who switched from butter to safflower oil, which contains linoleic acid.(Courtesy WDDTY)
